WIPO has published Madrid System Information Notice No. 32/2026 confirming that, with effect from 01 August 2026, individual fees will apply where Jersey (the Bailiwick of Jersey) is designated under the Madrid System.

Practical Implications

From 01 August 2026, applicants seeking trade mark protection in Jersey through the Madrid System will need to account for Jersey’s individual fee structure when filing:

• A new international trade mark application designating Jersey;
• A subsequent designation extending an existing international registration to Jersey; or
• A renewal of an international registration covering Jersey.

This is especially relevant for brand owners and portfolio managers who have historically relied on United Kingdom designations as part of their international trade mark filing strategy.

Notes for Brand Owners

Brand owners with existing or planned Madrid System filings should review whether protection in Jersey is required and ensure that filing and renewal budgets make provision for the new fee structure from 01 August 2026.

The change should also be considered when reviewing broader United Kingdom and Crown Dependency trade mark protection strategies, particularly for portfolios where Jersey forms part of the relevant commercial territory.
